Notification that the king has committed to Alan de Kancia, brother of the Knights Templars in England, 1,460l. to take to Paris to deliver to Alfonse count of Toulouse this Whitsunday by view and testimony of William Bardof or the messenger whom the king is sending from Gascony to meet the said Alan. And the said Alan will take it safely, except for the peril of the sea, fire and thieves. By the queen.Historical context:
When Henry III went to Gascony to deal with a rebellion, he appointed Eleanor to run the government with the counsel of his brother Richard of Cornwall (who was married to Eleanor’s sister Sanchia). The Patent Rolls record the actions she took in that position.Scholarly notes:
